Teaching Tibetan as a First Language

Concurrent

First language training has emerged as a crucial component of education systems around the world, conveying an essential set of skills for modern life. Though a number of books are available to Tibetan language teachers, they are largely out-of-date and few have been designed to meet the needs of modern first-language education. This panel will analyze current and traditional methodologies for teaching Tibetan to native speakers. The panel will also examine whether these methods are relevant and appropriate for modern education, and possible ways to enhance language education for mother tongue speakers. Additionally, topics such as the need for culturally relevant educational materials will be addressed.
